You can determine if a TCT saw blade needs re-grinding based on six visual signs and professional standards. If any of these occur, it's recommended to address the issue promptly:

 

1. Abnormal Workpiece Processing Quality

This is the most direct indicator: The cut surface of the workpiece is covered with burrs, the edges are chipped, and the burrs are difficult to remove. Alternatively, the workpiece surface may have a messy texture. On some high-end machines, the sudden appearance of burrs indicates the saw blade has become dull. If material loss is significantly increased compared to normal, it's also highly likely due to saw blade wear.

 

2. Abnormal Cutting Feel and Heating

If the previously smooth pushing operation suddenly becomes more difficult and requires more effort, and the material at the cutting point shows obvious signs of burning and blackening, accompanied by a pungent odor and excessive smoke, this is caused by the saw blade becoming dull and rapidly heating up due to friction. Regrinding is necessary immediately.

 

3. Abnormal Cutting Sound:

If, under normal operating conditions, the cutting sound becomes uneven and unstable, accompanied by harsh noises, irregular vibrations, or friction noises, it indicates uneven wear of the saw blade edge and an imbalance in its center of gravity. Sharpening will resolve this.

 

4. Blade Wear Reaching a Professional Threshold:

This is a strict criterion: directly measure the wear on the blade edge. If the wear exceeds 0.2mm, sharpening is mandatory, even if cutting is currently normal. Continued use will rapidly accelerate blade wear, significantly increasing the difficulty of later sharpening and potentially rendering the saw blade unusable.

 

5. Damaged or Adhered Tooth Surfaces:

If the saw blade teeth show signs of adhesion (such as a lot of glue, aluminum shavings, or resin), or if there is tooth sticking, chipping, or tooth loss, even localized chipping, immediate stoppage and sharpening are necessary. This uneven stress can easily lead to tooth flying, posing a safety hazard.
