Extending the lifespan of diamond composite sheets can be achieved through targeted optimization in three areas: selection and matching, process operation, and daily maintenance. This can effectively reduce the risk of wear and breakage. Specific methods are as follows:

 

1. Selection and Matching is the Prerequisite, Reducing Loss at the Root Cause
Incorrect selection is the core reason for premature scrapping of composite sheets. Strict matching with operating conditions is necessary:

Geological Drilling Scenarios: For soft to medium-hard formations, conventional flat teeth are preferred. For deep hard rock/abrasive formations, high-end products with spherical/irregular teeth and deep cobalt filtration technology must be selected to avoid excessively rapid wear at a single point.

Processing Scenarios: For continuous high-temperature processing, products with secondary sintering or cobalt removal treatment must be selected for better thermal stability, preventing accelerated wear and detachment of the diamond layer due to high temperatures.

Avoid Using Oversized Materials for Undersized Materials and Undersized Materials for Oversized Materials: For ordinary formations, blindly selecting products with ultra-thick diamond layers is unnecessary and increases costs. For complex formations, standard specifications must be selected to avoid premature scrapping and increased overall costs.

 

2. Standardized Operations to Reduce Abnormal Losses
Improper operation can directly cause composite material breakage and burn-out. The following precautions should be taken:

Control Drilling Parameters: Apply light pressure and rotate slowly when starting drilling to avoid excessive pressure during plugging and reaming, which can cause impact breakage of the composite material. When drilling into hard formations, control drilling pressure and rotation speed to avoid excessively high rotation speeds that can lead to sustained high temperatures and burn-out of the composite material.

Maintain Smooth Drilling Fluid Flow: Clean rock dust from the water channels beforehand to ensure sufficient drilling fluid circulation and timely removal of cutting heat, preventing the composite material from overheating and causing the diamond layer to carbonize and detach.

Avoid Collisions and Impacts: Control the descent speed during drilling to avoid rapid contact with the bottom of the well and impact damage to the composite material. When retrieving the drill string, avoid wellbore steps to prevent impact and chipping.
