Determining if a resin grinding wheel is overheated can be quickly identified through sensory characteristics and processing status, without the need for professional temperature measuring equipment. The key points for judgment are as follows:
Visual Inspection: A normal resin grinding wheel has a uniform color. After overheating, the surface will turn black and develop yellowish-brown scorch marks. The larger the carbonization range, the more severe the overheating. Severe overheating can also cause edge chipping, uneven surface, and even visible micro-cracks.
Odor Identification: Overheating will cause the resin to decompose and emit a distinct burnt resin smell, clearly different from the metallic smell of normal grinding. The stronger the odor, the higher the degree of carbonization.
Vibration and Feel Judgment: After overheating disrupts the wheel's balance, vibration will significantly increase during idle running or grinding. When using a hand tool, the increased vibration amplitude can be clearly felt, and the workpiece temperature will be abnormally hot to the touch.
Machining performance assessment: Two extreme abnormalities will occur after overheating - either the abrasive grains will fall off in pieces, the grinding efficiency will drop sharply and the wear will be rapid; or the resin will soften and stick to the pores, the grinding wheel will become dull and unable to grind the workpiece, and the feed resistance will increase significantly.
