This depends on the degree of overheating damage and cannot be generalized:
Slight, localized overheating does not affect continued use; however, severely carbonized, cracked, or structurally damaged wheels must be scrapped and absolutely cannot be used.
1. Situations where continued use is possible (only slight overheating): If only slight yellowing and a small amount of abrasive grain shedding are observed on the surface, without carbonization, blackening, or cracks, and the balance is normal:
Simply repair the grinding wheel surface, remove the overheated carbonized layer, and rebalance it. It can then be used for rough grinding, cutting, and other non-precision machining applications without affecting safety or basic machining efficiency.
2. Situations where scrapping is mandatory (severe overheating): If any of the following occurs, the wheel must be replaced immediately and continued use is strictly prohibited:
Carbonization and cracks: Large areas of blackened carbonization on the surface, visible cracks, or a dull sound when tapped indicate internal structural damage and a risk of explosion during high-speed rotation.
Balance Disruption: Vibration significantly worsens during idling/grinding, and cannot be restored after correction, leading to decreased workpiece machining accuracy and potential damage to the machining equipment spindle.
Complete Performance Deterioration: Abrasive grains flake off in large pieces, or wear far exceeds normal levels. Even after repair, normal machining efficiency cannot be maintained, and continued use only increases costs.
Overall Structural Softening and Deformation: End faces are noticeably skewed, and dimensional deformation exceeds tolerances, making it impossible to meet the accuracy requirements for installation and machining.
